CSR Programmes
Our Environmental Conservation initiatives emphasize raising awareness of climate change and human impact on local natural resources. In partnering with local conservation efforts, Laguna Phuket supports various initiatives that ensure sustainable rehabilitation of marine and shoreline resources around Phuket Island and nearby provinces.
EarthCheck
EarthCheck is the environmental certification program that Laguna Phuket is registered with as a precinct. The key objective is to monitor and improve our environmental practices to achieve sustainability outcomes in our business operations by providing a framework for environmental and social sustainability.
Laguna Phuket received EarthCheck’s Bronze Status in September 2014, Silver Status since in April 2015 and Gold Status since December 2020.
Sea Turtle Conservation
Laguna Phuket has supported sea turtle conservation programs in Phuket since 1994. Our efforts focus on raising funds and awareness in support of the Phuket Marine Biological Centre (PMBC) and 3rd Area Naval Command, Royal Thai Navy, whose ongoing conservation and rehabilitation programs include studies of nesting behavior and tracking and analysis of turtle migration via microchips and satellite tracking devices attached to released turtles.
Local conservation programs predominantly include Green Sea Turtles (Chelonia mydas), Olive Ridley Turtles (Lepidochelys olivacea), Loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta) and Hawksbill Turtles (Eretmochelys imbricate). Another species found in this region is the Leatherback Turtle (Dermochelys coriacea).
To-date, 2,145 turtles have been released and raised over 7.7 Million Baht (USD$ 250,000), all proceeds go to sea turtle conservation program of PMBC in partnership with 3rd Area Naval Command, Royal Thai Navy. Funds have been used to supply food for turtle nurseries, purchase satellite tracking devices, microchip and Inconel tag for juvenile turtles, and renovate disabled turtle shelter roof structure and nursery pounds. Over 4,500 people have been able to learn the conservancy of sea turtles through their participation and many hands-on edutainment activities with Laguna Phuket and PMBC.
