Hayden Wilde, the Silver Medalist from the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games, and Last Year’s Champion, Kate Waugh, Won the 30th Laguna Phuket Triathlon.
November 21, Phuket – New Zealand’s Hayden Wilde and Great Britain’s Kate Waugh emerged as winners at the 30th ลากูน่า ภูเก็ต ไตรกีฬา.
Wilde finished just over three minutes ahead of fellow Kiwi Tayler Reid, with Ukraine’s Rostyslav Pevtsov completing the podium in third place. In the women’s category Kate Waugh who made her Olympic debut in Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games, successfully defended her title from the previous year. She finished ahead of Switzerland’s Alanis Siffert and Belgium’s Claire Michel, who has competed in the Olympic three times – in 2016, 202, and 2024, respectively.
The Laguna Phuket Triathlon, often referred to as the “Race of Legends”, attracts both elite and amateur triathletes from around the world. With over 1,000 participants from more than 30 nations, the event highlights its significance as a premier global sports competition while adding to the excitement as the island approaches its peak tourist season. The Laguna Phuket Triathlon showcases the demanding athletic challenges and celebrates the island’s breathtaking natural beauty, reinforcing ลากูน่า ภูเก็ต’s reputation as a world-class destination for international sporting events.
Hayden Wilde, who won a silver medal in the men’s triathlon at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games expressed excitement following his debut in his first Laguna Phuket Triathlon: “This event has been on my wish list for a long time, and certainly lived up to my expectations. The breathtaking scenery and challenging course were impressive. Despite the heat, it was a memorable experience, and I’m proud to have secured this victory.” The women’s champion, Kate Waugh, stated: “I’m thrilled to defend my title in this esteemed event. Competing here is always an honour, and I appreciate the opportunity to race in such an extraordinary location.”
Celebrating its 30th anniversary, the ลากูน่า ภูเก็ต ไตรกีฬา continues to be the longest-standing international triathlon in Southeast Asia. Renowned for its challenging course and stunning scenery, the event includes a 1.8-kilometer swim in the Andaman Sea and a lagoon, a 50-kilometer bike ride across hilly and picturesque landscapes, and a 12-kilometer run through the grounds of Laguna Phuket.
